Red Bull Leipzig of Germany forward, Ademola Lookman, is a few steps away from completing a switch of international allegiance from England to Nigeria.

The England-born Nigeria eligible youngster has represented his country of birth at youth levels and was part of the triumphant Young Lions who conquered the world at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

His progress has stalled since that time, with the Charlton Athletic academy graduate failing to impress at Everton before he was sold to RB Leipzig where his struggles have continued.

Lookman had initially turned down the opportunity to switch allegiance to Nigeria after an approach from the national coach, Gernot Rohr, in early 2017 but with his possibility of representing England at the senior level almost nonexistent, the player is now looking to switch to Nigeria.

According to Nigeria's technical assistant, Tunde Adelakun, only the approval from the world football governing body is left before the player's nationality will be fully switched.

“Lookman has applied for the switch and all the documents are in order,” Adelakun was quoted to have said on Opera News.

“It’s a positive step forward when he made his commitment to Nigeria and we are just waiting for a Fifa clearance.

“Once the go-ahead is sorted, it will be up to coach Gernot Rohr to decide if his club performance would earn him a call-up.”
