MFM star, Joshua Akpudje, has expressed his desire to play for Nigeria's senior national team and hopes to get a call up from coach, Gernot Rohr.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for the Olukoya Boys this season and helped them shut out Plateau United at the Soccer Temple in Agege, on Sunday.

Plateau were the better side for much of the game and Akpudje admitted it was a disappointing result for them.

"For me, it is one point gained but we are not happy because this is our home ground and we have to win. Plateau is a good side and we expected a lot from them but we just have to go back to camp and keep on working ahead of our next game against Kwara,” he stated.

Having represented Nigeria at the U-23 level during the qualifier for the AFCON against Libya in Tunisia, the hard-tackling defender is now looking forward to lining out for the Super Eagles.

"I have played for the U-23, against Libya in Tunisia and I'm looking forward to playing alongside my role model, Kenneth Omeruo, one day in the future.

"I hope one day Gernot Rohr will give me a chance to play in the central defence of the Super Eagles.

It has been hard for locally-based players to break through into the national team, with Rohr preferring the more exposed foreign-based players.

Akpudje revealed that there are plans going on underground to try and secure him a move away from Nigeria but he is currently focused on helping MFM secure a continental ticket.

"MFM is a stepping stone for young players to come up and yeah, there's a plan going on but I have to stay focused with my current team and if I continue improving teams will have more interest in me but I can't stop working hard else it will be bad for me,” he said.

MFM's next game is against struggling Kwara United.
