Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, has weighed in on the debate about who is a better defensive midfielder between Wilfred Ndidi and N'Golo Kante.

Ndidi has been in an incredible form this season, which has made many compare him to the World Cup winner, who is one of the best at breaking play.

Kante was instrumental in Leicester's Premier League triumph in the 2015/16 season, as well as Chelsea's success the following season.

However, under Mauricio Sarri and Frank Lampard, Kante has been moved further up the pitch to accommodate Jorginho at the base of Chelsea midfield. That seems to have affected Kante's game, with many calling for Lampard to return him to his original position.

In his pre-match conference on Thursday, Rodgers was asked for his thoughts on both players.

“I think they’re different,” the former Liverpool and Celtic boss began.

“Wilf (Ndidi) is a young player at 23 but reads the game so well and how he recovers the ball to allow our attacking players to play.

“Both players recover the ball so well, but their play is different.

“Kante’s game is very much the same in terms of having big energy in the game.

“He gets forward a little bit more. Here, he was covering spaces, there, he’s playing more advanced, breaking up the play further up the pitch.

“Wherever he plays, he’s a top-class player. Every team he’s played in he’s made better. A fantastic better.”
