Manchester United reportedly assigned the jersey number 25 to the striker who joined on the deadline day of the winter transfer window.

Odion Ighalo would wear the Number 25 shirt when he makes his debut for the Red Devils if reports online are anything to go by.

The 30-year-old ex-Nigerian international touched down at Carrington on Monday morning after the club announced a six-month loan agreement with Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua.

Ighalo was brought in as a temporary fix for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's injury-hit Manchester United team. The 13-time Premier League champions lost their top scorer, Marcus Rashford, to an injury last month and have failed to score a league goal since his absence.

With Rashford missing almost two months of action, it became even more pressing that Solskjaer brought in a replacement to help in the attack.

United's next game in the league is against Frank Lampard's Chelsea after the winter break and reports on All Nigeria Soccer claims Ighalo who is most likely to play a part in that game would wear the number 25 shirt.

The shirt number choice is said to have been inspired by the legendary Nigerian forward, Kanu Nwankwo, who wore the number while he was with Arsenal.

The shirt has been vacant since last summer when Ecuadorian winger turned full-back, Antonio Valencia, left Old Trafford.

While Ighalo would have preferred the No 9 shirt which he wore at Shanghai Shenhua, that number is already occupied by Anthony Martial.

Other numbers which were available for the 30-year-old were 7, 11, 12, 16, 19, 27, 28 and 30.
