At least three people were confirmed dead and fourteen others injured in an accident which occurred around the Saapade area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, Spokesman of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
He said the accident, which occurred around 7:15 am, involved a Mazda bus, marked AKD 53 XN, heading to Lagos from Ibadan and a Ford bus, marked RGB 490 XA, travelling from Lagos to Ikire.
According to eyewitnesses and other road users, the accident occurred at a diversion area on the expressway where the vehicles collided due to overspeeding and reckless driving.
"The eyewitness account posited that the driver of the Ford bus coming from Lagos to Ikire was among the three dead victims while the other two were among the passengers in the Mazda bus," the spokesman said.
The three corpses have already been deposited at FOS Mortuary, Ipara, while the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere; State Hospital, Isara; and Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
Mr Akinbiyi also advised motorists to avoid overspeeding and reckless driving at diversions and construction areas because of its dire consequences. He, thus, urged them to keep to the 50km/h speed limit.
