David Barmasai Tumo has won the 2020 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon after crossing the finish line quicker than other athletes.

The 31-year-old long-distance runner broke away quite early and sealed the 42-kilometre race after hours of running.

David crossed the finish line after 2hrs, 10mins and 23secs, beating the previous 2:15:04 record time set by Kiprotich in 2018.

In the female category, David's Kenyan counterpart, Sharon Jemutai Cherop, 35, was first to cross the finish mark after over two and a half hours of racing. She set a new course record of 2:31:38.

Emmanuel Gyang from Plateau State was the first Nigerian to finish the mark while Deborah Pam from the same state was the first Nigerian lady.

Both Barmasai and Cherop will get $70,000 respectively, $50,000 for coming first and $20,000 for reaching the finish line before the time set for the race. The second and third place winners in both the male and female categories will get $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
