Nigerian couple, Emmanuel Gyang and Deborah Pam, once again emerged winners of a race after they finished as the first male and female Nigerians to get past the finish mark at the fifth edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

The famous long-distance running couple failed to get a podium finish or even finish in the top ten of the international race but they managed to set another record as the first Nigerian couple to win the event.

Gyang emerged as the first Nigerian to complete the 42km race, crossing the finish line at an astonishing 2:25.30hrs seconds, although he ranked 33rd overall.

His wife, Badung Deborah Pam, who finished 14th overall in the women's category, scaled through as the first Nigerian lady some 25 minutes later at 2:45:17hrs, bettering her win from last year which was 02:52:59hrs.

This is not the first time the couple is winning a race at the same event. In 2016, the duo won the national titles in the men and women’s 5000m events at the Nigerian trials in Sapele, Delta State.

They also won at the seventh edition of the Okpekpe 10km International Road Race which took place exactly three weeks after their wedding that held in May 2019.

In December 2019, the couple from Plateau State won the 2nd National Anti-Corruption Half Marathon in Abuja.

Gyang and Pam are popularly referred to as Nigeria’s Number 1 long-distance couple.
