Nigeria's head coach, Gernot Rohr, is confident of the availability of some key players for next month’s 2021 AFCON qualifying fixtures against Sierra Leone.
Lately, some of Super Eagles players have missed games for their teams while some others were replaced after picking up injuries during games.
Kenneth Omeruo was replaced in Leganes’ La Liga defeat while Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon also picked up injuries after scoring for Lille and Nantes respectively in Ligue 1.
Defensive midfielders, Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo, also missed the last games of their respective teams in England and Spain through injury.
Those injuries to key members of the Nigerian senior team seemed to set panic into some fans ahead of the upcoming outings against the Leone Stars but Rohr has moved swiftly to reassure fans of their availability for the games.
“I’m very confident that our injured players will come back soon," the German tactician told Aoi Football.
There is only one big injury which is Uzoho because he is out for several months but the other ones like Osimhen will be okay very soon and is already better. Omeruo has only a knock on the head, Kalu whom I saw, is already nursing a comeback this weekend.
“For Moses Simon, we have to wait to know the extent and for Ndidi, he is resting very well and will be fit very soon and then we have a little injury for Etebo but it’s not a big one, and he couldn’t play over the weekend.”
Nigeria is top of their qualifying group for the 2021 AFCON, having notched wins in their first two games against Benin Republic and Lesotho.
The West Africans next play Sierra Leone who are bottom of Group L at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on March 23 followed by a reverse fixture in Freetown eight days later.
