The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Adeboye, recently advised bachelors via his Twitter handle not to marry ladies who cannot cook or do chores.

The pastor’s opinion has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians on social media.

Nigerian media personality, Toke Makinwa, has shared her take on the issue.

She is of the opinion that men should also learn how to cook and that people should ignore the pastor’s message if it does not concern them.

As the African society is gradually changing as a result of education and enlightenment, many things that used to be considered a norm are now frowned at by people.

One of those things is the gender role in a home and the things expected from the male or female sex. In the past, everyone knew that the woman was in charge of cooking and the care of the home, while the man handled the financial aspect.

According to Toke, men should also learn how to cook so that they do not base their choice of their future partners on their bellies.

She wrote, “Cooking is not restricted to a gender, guys learn how to cook so you don’t base the entirety of picking a life partner on your belly, if you don’t want to, make enough to hire a chef. Life is too short to be triggered all the time."

Speaking further, Toke noted that those who are not affected by the pastor’s message should simply ignore it.
