Following the sack of Cameroonian gaffer, Emmanuel Deutsch, as manager of the Abia-based side, the chief coach of the team, Willy Udube, has been placed in charge temporarily till a permanent coach is hired.

Udube took charge of the team's training sessions on Tuesday, as they prepared for this weekend's NPFL game against Katsina United.

The Ochendo Boys relieved their former manager of his duties after suffering three straight losses, including back to back losses against City rivals, Enyimba FC.

In a press statement on Monday, the club’s management revealed that the coach was sacked because their recent results and run of form "does not portray the qualities of an ambitious team like Abia Warriors."

Abia Warriors have been in dismal form recently, losing five of their last seven games but the defeat that broke the camel’s back was the 4-1 defeat at home to Enyimba.

They are now 14th on the Nigerian Professional Football League standing, with four points separating them and the drop zone.
