The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims that Daniel Amokachi has replaced Mr Bitrus Bewarang as the technical director of the country’s football.
This week, several reports online stated that the former Super Eagles forward who was recently made the country's ambassador of football had also been appointed as technical director.
Amokachi also took to his Instagram page to share a screenshot of the report as he thanked God for 'another one.'
But on Wednesday, the football governing body, through the chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed Fresh, poured cold water on those reports.
“This clarification becomes necessary against the background of wide-circulating but totally misleading reports of the appointment of Mr Daniel Amokachi, a former Super Eagles captain and coach, as head of NFF technical department,” Yusuf Ahmed said in Abuja on Wednesday.
“The NFF has been bemused by this unfounded story, which no doubt must have embarrassed Mr Amokachi himself, " he added.
Yusuf, who also doubles as a member CAF's Technical and Development Committee, however, took the opportunity to congratulate Amokachi on his appointment as ambassador by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.
“Mr Amokachi richly deserves this appointment as someone who served our dear nation meritoriously on the field of play as a player and coach," he said.
