The press conference for the 2020 Yeye Cabaret, themed “This Woman’s Work”, held on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at L.E.A.R.N, Surulere, Lagos.

While giving her speech at the event, the head of PR, Yetty Ogunnubi, noted that the annual Yeye Cabaret event was a great initiative and observed that it was even more interesting that it was organized by a man.

The convener, Ayo Ogundipe, talked about the inception of Yeye Cabaret, as well as what the journey has been like for the team. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who has been part of the support system to what was supposed to be a one-off event.

Ogundipe stated that the event was borne out of the need to include all mothers in the celebration of the day, as opposed to what was majorly celebrated in churches.

Bukky Asehinde, the face of this year’s event and the CEO of BellAfricana, confirmed what a humbling experience it has been for herself and her daughter. She also showed BellAfricana’s support by mentioning how they have been spreading the word to their audience.

One of the partners, Yetunde Edunjobi, stated that she was glad about the Yeye Cabaret platform because she knows mental health issues, particularly post-partum depression is not really talked about, especially as someone who experienced it. She will be focusing on creating content around sustaining the conversation.

A representative of A&D referral services, Dr. Yinka Jibunoh, briefly discussed what post-partum depression is, the causes and how to get help. She also shared how A&D referral services will be partnering with Yeye Cabaret.

Two of the lead actresses and the producer for the theatre production, Mojisola Kadiri, Theodora Onaopoi and Alaba Adesokun, promised that it will be an evening of excitement, entertainment and education through the musical that will be performed. They emphasized the importance of the production which is to highlight post-partum depression but in a subtle manner.

Giving the closing remarks, Ogundipe said everyone should expect the biggest Mother’s Day event in Lagos, and possibly Nigeria at large. He went on to announce partners and sponsors, including Three Crowns, Africa Movie Channel, Grin Booth, Zaron Cosmetics, Bogobiri, Amal Botanicals and Exquisite Magazine.

He implored the media to support the initiative and help promote to the largest audience possible. The convener also called out for more sponsors because he believes this event should be highly invested in.
