Things Africa Must Possess To Progress - Reno Omokri

Pearl Emmanuel

Nigerian author and human rights activist, Reno Omokri, has stated that the sad reality of most African families is that they are reluctant to give financial aid to one another.

The author further affirmed on his Twitter page that many have the mentality that giving financial aid to other relatives or friends to set up a business will make such people wealthier than them.

As a result, he insisted, most Africans would rather give handouts than sort out the life of another family member.

This, according to Omokri, is bad for growth and development because it is only when Africans learn to love one another enough to permit growth that Africa can progress.

Read what he wrote below:

"Sadly, many Black Africans have the mentality that if we help our relative or friend set up a business or give them a job, then they may be richer than us. So, we prefer giving them handouts. Just enough to live, but not enough to survive without us. That is why we contribute money for a friend or relative who is about to marry or have a party, but we won’t unite to contribute money to start a business for them.

“Black Africans prefer to contribute to something that consumes money, such as a funeral, or party. Go to New York. Jews don’t go to banks for capital or insurance. They go to their Jewish cultural associations. They love each other. We must learn to love each other enough to permit our brother to succeed beyond us, or Africa will not progress!"
