Ikenna Unegbu, the Director of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, in Imo State, has been docked in court for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl in his office.
According to ‘The Nation’, the suspected paedophile was arraigned at a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Owerri on Friday, March 6, 2019.
The incident was said to have occurred on February 5, 2020, in Unegbu’s NIMC office when the complainant, Chinonye Obioma, who is also the mother of the child, visited the office to process her national identification.
Obioma told the court that her little child was defiled by the director who had taken the child from her in the guise of consoling her after she (Obioma) scolded her (the child) for pouring water around the office.
“My daughter went into the office twice with biscuits and groundnuts, only to come out from the Director’s office the third time, crying,” the mother said.
She, however, noted that it was on their way home when she noticed abnormal movement and posture of her baby after she urinated.
“When I asked her what happened, she mentioned that Uncle Police (the suspect) removed her pant, and put his stick (penis) inside her bumbum.
Obioma revealed that her baby's vagina was reddish and swollen with remains of sperm and gummed tissue paper around her private part.
She called Ikenna (suspect) to ask about what he did with her daughter, but he vehemently denied knowledge of the incident.
Obioma took her baby to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, and Police Hospital the next day to carry tests on her daughter and it was confirmed through medical reports that the little girl’s hymen was broken, leaving her with a serious injury after she was penetrated.
The Magistrate, Her Worship Odionyenma, said the evidence provided would be properly studied to ensure justice is served. She ruled that the suspect be granted bail with his re-arraignment set for March 19, 2020.
