Ex-Nigerian international, Vincent Enyeama, says he is still hopeful of playing professional football again despite reports that he has quit the game.

The former Super Eagles captain has not played a competitive game since April 2017, with local media reporting that he has hung his boots.

But the 37-year-old who has been spotted playing golf severally has denied the reports while stating that he hopes to get back to active football soon.

“I enjoy playing golf so I understand the confusion. I have been staying in shape,” the former Enyimba shot-stopper told FrunSports in an exclusive interview.

“It is no secret that I love football and I am still in contention to play again,” the former Super Eagles shot-stopper added.

Enyeama is one of Nigeria's greatest goalkeepers and one of the country's most decorated players.

He made a name for himself with Enyimba where he won back-to-back CAF Champions League titles before moving to Europe where he enjoyed successful spells in Israel and France.

Enyeama was one of the senior members of the Super Eagles team that lifted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations under the guidance of late Stephen Keshi. He was capped 101 times by three-time African champions and represented them in three FIFA World Cup tournaments.
