I Will Not Beg For Contract Renewal - Rohr To NFF

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is presumably already preparing for life after his current job, with the Nigeria Football Federation yet to give any positive feedback as regards a contract extension.

The German tactician's current contract with the three-time African champions expires in June and he and his employers are yet to decide on his future.

At the moment, the Franco-German coach is able to discuss with other suitors and it seems that is an option the 66-year-old might be exploring.

Rohr was expected to arrive Nigeria this week to prepare for the double-header AFCON qualifiers against Sierra Leone but with the game now postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus situation, that trip has been cancelled.

It is expected that the FIFA calendar will be readjusted and games played at a much later time, but Rohr might be out of contract with Nigeria before that happens.

The former Bayern Munich defender is, however, not worried about the situation, stating that his only concern at the moment is the fitness of Super Eagles players, with club football on hold across Europe.

"I will not ask the Nigerian Federation what is going on with my contract renewal (with just over three months left on his present deal). It’s for the NFF to approach me. I am still waiting," Rohr told Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana.

"My job is to focus on the Super Eagles, as long as I am the coach of this team. And I am going to do just that.

"Right now, my concern is that our players in Europe stay physically fit, even when they are not playing, because of the coronavirus situation."

Rohr has been Nigeria's head coach since 2016 and has qualified the West Africans for two international tournaments, the 2018 FIFA World Cup and last year's Africa Cup of Nations where he took the country to a third-place finish.
