6 Cancer Prevention Tips

Cancer is a disease in which abnormal cells divide without control and can invade other tissues. These cells may spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems.

There are over a hundred different kinds of cancer. The truth is what is known about cancer prevention is still evolving. But it is an accepted fact that your chances of developing cancer are affected by your lifestyle choices. So if you are concerned about preventing cancer then consider these tips;

1. Screening Tests

If you get screening tests done regularly you will most likely detect breast, cervical, and colon cancers early, which is the best time to get treatment.

Lung cancer screening is recommended for some people who are at high risk i.e. smokers.

2. Shots

Vaccines shots help reduce the risk of cancer. The likes of human papillomavirus (HPV) and Hepatitis B vaccines that help prevent most cervical cancers, and several other kinds of cancer, and can also lower the risk of liver cancer.

3. Stay Away From Tobacco

Using tobacco positions you head-on with cancer. Smoking has been linked to different types of cancer; cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, pancreas, bladder, kidney among many others.

Chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don't use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke may also increase your risk of lung cancer.

Avoiding tobacco or better still deciding to stop using it, will help in preventing cancer.

4. Eat and Drink Healthy

You are what you eat so make effort to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables as well as other foods from plant sources .i.e. whole grains and beans.

Do your best to avoid obesity by eating lighter, leaner, and selecting fewer foods with high-calories.

If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation The risk of various types of cancer increases with the amount of alcohol you drink and the length of time you've been drinking regularly.

Breast, colon, lung, kidney, and liver cancer are only a few of which you can get from drinking.

5. Exercise

Studies also show that maintaining a healthy weight might lower the risk of different types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, prostate, lung, colon, and kidney, and there’s no better way to do this than being physically active.

In addition to helping you control your weight, physical activity on its own can also help lower the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer.

6. Avoid The Sun

One of the most preventable yet common types of cancer is skin cancer. If you are looking for ways to prevent it then avoid the sun when it is at its peak - this is usually between 10 am. and 4 .m. Do your best to stay in the shade while outdoors, get dark shades and do not be shy to wear a broad-brimmed hat, face cap or even carry an umbrella. Invest in sunscreen and cover exposed areas of your body by wearing tightly
