The European football governing body, UEFA, has announced that this season’s Champions League and Europa League finals have been postponed by a month due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The finals of both competitions were set to hold in May, but with the widespread pandemic affecting schedules, UEFA has now confirmed they will be backdated by a month.
The decision to move back the competitions was reached after a videoconference meeting was held on Tuesday by UEFA's Executive Committee with the presidents and general secretaries of the 55 national associations, as well as representatives of the European Club Association, European Leagues and FIFPro Europe.
Euro 2020, which was scheduled to hold across twelve different European cities this summer, has also been postponed by a year to allow football leagues to finish the remainder of the current season.
In a statement shared on their website, the European body announced that a working body which has representatives of leagues and club has been set up to examine calendar solutions that would allow for the completion of the current season.
"All UEFA competitions and matches (including friendlies) for clubs and national teams for both men and women have been put on hold until further notice," the statement read.
"The UEFA EURO 2020 Play-off matches and international friendlies, scheduled for the end of March, will now be played in the international window at the start of June, subject to a review of the situation.
"UEFA EURO 2020 was scheduled to take place in twelve cities across Europe from 12 June to 12 July 2020. The proposed new dates are 11 June - 11 July 2021.
"UEFA would like to reassure existing ticket buyers and hospitality clients that if they cannot attend the tournament in 2021, the face value of their tickets and packages will be refunded in full.
"Within the next month, further information on the refund process will be communicated to existing ticket buyers via e-mail and on UEFA's website.
"Decisions on dates for other UEFA competitions, whether club or national team for men or women, will be taken and announced in due course.”
