COVID-19: Senate Asks President Buhari To Address Nigerians

The Senate has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation over the outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus.

This was made known during a plenary session on Wednesday where the lawmakers stated that this move would reassure Nigerians, and reinforce the government’s direction and multi-sectoral intervention for concerted effort to contain the scourge.

President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, said: “If we feel we are safe, it will lead us to complacency.”

The lawmakers also asked the government to take the issue seriously and treat the pandemic Coronavirus with more urgency. He advised that considerations should be made as regards to restricting mass gatherings in order to curb the continuous spread.

The Senate further advised Nigerians to begin stockpiling household supplies in the case of further spread.

Recall that Nigeria as at Wednesday, 18th March 2020 had recorded five new cases of Coronavirus.
