5 Ways To Work Effectively From Home During The Lockdown

We are getting ready for the new work week. And what better way to make preparations than to share these tips on working effectively from home during the COVID-19 lockdown?

With the number of coronavirus cases in the country increasing daily, it is hard to tell when the lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun States will end.

But you still have your 9-5 job and your boss will not tolerate any excuses. Besides, you have got a backlog of work from before the lockdown that you have to clear.

So, rather than moping about how inconvenient it is for you to work from home, why don’t you try these simple tricks to make working from home effective?

1. Prepare for the office

You cannot stay in your nightwear and in bed all day and expect to get anything done. Pretend that it is another day at the office and you have to follow your normal 8-hour work routine with a lunch or toilet break in between.

Wake up early, do your exercises, say your prayers or meditate, shower and get dressed for work. Get your work tools, including laptop, documents, pen, paper, work journal, ready for the day’s activities.

2. Create an office space

Creating an office space in your home is as important as getting ready for the office. Or of what use would it be to get dressed if you have to remain in bed?

Your office space does not have to be elaborate. You only need a good table, chair and space in your sitting or dining room which you can set aside for work. Once you are able to do this, working from home becomes easy.

3. Make a to-do list

A to-do list guides you through your day’s tasks. With this list, you know exactly what to do and what should be considered a priority. So, rather than taking on more tasks than you can handle or doing it all at once and making no headway, a to-do list will help you focus on what is most important.

4. Stay online

Since you are working from home, it is important that you stay online and keep all channels of communication open so that your boss, line manager and members of your team can reach you.

5. Avoid distractions

Truth be told, there will be distractions - the TV, your spouse, children, if you have any, social media, and even house chores. But you must avoid them as much as you possibly can. If you give in to distractions, the chances of achieving anything at all are slim to none.
