COVID-19 Case Update: Nigeria Records 288 New Cases, Total Now 5,445

Nigeria has recorded a total of 5,445 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 171 deaths and 1,320 now recovered, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC, on its official Twitter handle, published the latest figures on the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, while noting that 288 new cases have been confirmed.

Lagos has the highest number of confirmed cases at 2,099, followed by Kano and Abuja with 753 and 379 respectively.

The country recorded its first case of the disease on February 27, 2020, when an Italian who returned to Lagos from Milan, Italy, tested positive for the virus.

With its origin in Wuhan, China, the infectious respiratory disease is known to be severe and has claimed over 300,000 lives worldwide.

Preventive measures against the disease, which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) on March 11, 2020, include social distancing, safe hygiene practices, and wearing of face masks.
