The new cases, according to the figures, were recorded in 22 states with Lagos having the highest number of cases at 131.

The first case of the novel coronavirus was recorded in the country when an Italian, who returned from Milan, Italy, tested positive on February 27, 2020.

A 14-day lockdown was later imposed by the federal government on March 30, 2020, in a bid to contain the spread of the disease. The lockdown was partially eased on May 4 after an additional 14-day lockdown was imposed on citizens.
