COVID-19 Case Update: Nigeria Records 276 New Cases

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed in a recent update on Twitter that 276 new confirmed COVID-19 cases have been recorded in the country.

According to the update, the new cases were recorded in 15 states, including Lagos (161), Rivers (36), Edo (27), Kaduna (19), Nasarawa (10), Oyo (6), Kano (4), Delta (3), Ebonyi (3), Gombe (2), Ogun (1), Ondo (1), Borno (1), Abia (1), and Bauchi (1).

The NCDC further indicated that there has now been a total of 249 deaths while 2,385 have been discharged.

Lagos has the highest number of coronavirus cases at 3,756, with Kano and the FCT following at 923 and 519 respectively. Katsina has 335 cases while Borno and Oyo have 256 and 250 cases respectively.

Across the globe, 5.59 million people have been infected with the virus, which has claimed 350,000 lives, while 2.29 million have recovered.

The first case of the novel coronavirus was recorded in the country when an Italian, who returned from Milan, Italy, tested positive on February 27, 2020.

The federal government, on March 30, 2020, imposed a 14-day lockdown in a bid to contain the spread of the disease.

The lockdown was partially eased on May 4 after an additional 14-day lockdown was imposed on citizens.
