COVID-19 Case Update: 416 New Cases, Inter-State Lockdown, Curfew Extended

Nigeria has recorded 416 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 10,578.

The new cases, according to a recent update by the NCDC, were recorded in 20 states, including Lagos (192), Edo (41), Rivers (33), Kaduna (30), Kwara (23), Nasarawa (18), Borno (17), FCT (14), Oyo (10), Katsina (7), Abia (5), Delta (5), Adamawa (4), Kano (4), Imo (3), Ondo (3), Benue (2), Bauchi (2), Ogun (2) and Niger (1).

The NCDC also indicated that there are now 299 COVID-19 deaths while 3,122 have been discharged.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, in Abuja yesterday, Monday, June 1, announced the extension of the inter-state lockdown across all states in the country as part of its efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

A two-week extension of the dusk-to-dawn curfew in the FCT, Lagos and Ogun States was also announced.

While restrictions on social gatherings remain, the task force maintained that the ban on religious gatherings will be lifted by state governors with strict rules.

Lagos has the highest number of coronavirus cases at 5,135, with Kano and the FCT following at 958 and 674 respectively.
