COVID-19 Case Update: Cases In Nigeria Hit 13,873, Now 382 Deaths

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported that the country now has a total of 13,873 COVID-19 cases, with 382 deaths and 4,351 people discharged.

According to the report, 409 new confirmed cases were recorded late Wednesday night in 16 states, including Lagos (201), FCT (85), Delta (22), Edo (16), Nasarawa (14), Borno (14), Kaduna (14), Bauchi (10), Rivers (9), Enugu (5), Kano (5), Ogun (4), Ondo (4), Bayelsa (2), Kebbi (2) and Plateau (2).

The index case of the virus was recorded in the country on February 27, 2020, when an Italian who returned to Lagos from Milan, Italy, tested positive.

As part of its efforts to contain the spread of the disease, the federal government imposed a two-week lockdown on citizens in March. It was extended by another two weeks.

On May 4, the lockdown was partially lifted. The number of coronavirus cases in the country continues to spike and it has become the third African country with the highest number of cases.
