COVID-19 Case Update: Nigeria Inches Closer To 20,000 Mark, Records 667 New Cases

Nigeria remains the third impacted country in Africa, as its total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rises to 19,147, inching closer to the 20,000 mark.

The country passed the 10,000 mark on May 31 when it recorded 307 new cases, bringing the total number to 10,162.

Now with over 19,000 cases, Nigeria is behind South Africa (87,715) and Egypt (52,211).

According to the latest figures published by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 667 new confirmed cases were recorded in 23 states, including Lagos (281), Abia (48), Oyo (45), FCT (38), Ogun (37), Enugu (31), Ondo (23), Plateau (21), Edo (19), Delta (18), Rivers (18), Bayelsa (17), Akwa Ibom (17), Kaduna (14), Kano (12), Bauchi (9), Gombe (4), Osun (3), Benue (3), Nasarawa (3), Kwara (3), Ekiti (2), and Borno (1).

The NCDC further reported that 6,581 people have been discharged and 487 deaths have been recorded in the country so far.

An update by Johns Hopkins University indicates that 8.66 million cases of the virus have been recorded worldwide, with 460,000 deaths and 4.25 million recoveries.
