Can you tell if you are in a relationship with a narcissist? Here are signs that you are in a narcissistic relationship.
Narcissists have an inflated sense of self-importance. They think they are better than other people. They also have a low self-esteem, which they mask with a disregard for other people's feelings. Forging a friendship with them is hard, and it gets even worse when you are in a romantic relationship with them. But how can you tell if your partner is narcissistic? See four signs below.
1. They have a sense of entitlement or superiority
Narcissists feel entitled and superior to others. They are never wrong - even when it is obvious that they are - and do not see the need to apologise. They are constantly trying to win an argument and would do anything but agree with you. As far as they are concerned, their opinion is always the right one. They deliberately hurt you, cancel plans at the last minute, and show up late for dates without apologising.
2. They lack empathy
Narcissists lack empathy or sympathy for others. They do not care about what you have been through, your fight with your siblings or your long, hard day at work. When you talk to them about your emotions, they do not understand or even attempt to. They quickly become bored when you talk and do little to hide this fact. They are not touched by your emotions and are indifferent when you are angry or sad.
3. They are manipulative and controlling
They manipulate and control you so much that you begin to feel less confident. They make you feel like a different person and you blame yourself for the change, rather than blaming them. You are constantly apologizing for things that are of no fault of yours. They want to feel superior to you, so they continue to manipulate you, lying and spinning the truth to their advantage.
4. They have a strong need for admiration
Because a narcissist has a strong need for admiration, they constantly fish for compliments. They need your compliments to feel better about themselves but will never give you compliments. They lift themselves up by pulling you down. They make you feel less of yourself while saying and doing mean things to you.
