Juju maestro cum ace gospel singer,Abel Dosunmu aka Mega 99,has come out to refute Cocaine rumours, currently surrounding him,and how he acquired his multi million naira instrument in this interview with Akinyele Sokoya for Happenings .
How did you come about your stage name,Mega 99?
Mega means something great but 99 is my father’s name in Celestial Church Of Christ.Although my father is late but I want to keep his name alive.
How did you become a musician,was your father a musician?
No,my father was not a musician,he was a pastor and he established a parish of CCC at Oshodi, Lagos.
Why did you stop worshipping at your father’s church about 12 years ago,was there any rancour?
There was crises of factions,which divided the congregation. Some people were following Pastor Emmanuel Oshoffa’s leadership,while others were following the leadership of other factions.The matter was taken to court and our faction won,I have returned to the church with my family now.
Which of your albums gave you fame?
The album that shot me into limelight was titled ‘Money’. I had done two albums before then,and we suffered a lot before it could be accepted. I appreciate Taiwo Akinsola, a top broadcaster who played it on radio. We shot the video thrice.
Since 2003 that ‘Money’ shot you into fame,how will you describe your journey to the top?
We give God all the glory, because we are one of the top juju musicians in this generation.
What were you doing before you delved into music?
I have done music all my life because I was born into the choir,aside the fact that I went to school.I went to Oshodi Primary School,proceeded to Oshodi Comprehensive High school,Oshodi and proceeded to Olabisi Onabanjo University.
How true is the speculation that you are dealing in drugs because people believe you are so rich to have acquired multi million naira instruments?
Cocaine ke, God forbid! I acquired the instruments and paid in instalment.
How many albums do you have to your credit?
We have about 12,the new album will soon hit the shelves.
