NTDC partners with Mexico, Turkey others to promote tourism

Happenings

Nigeria is set to promote tourism with resident diplomatic communities in eight countries, having completed arrangements that would make it possible for students of the individual countries to visit freely says, Deputy Director of the Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) Mrs Annette Ibe.

Speaking Tuesday, in an interview with newsmen in Lagos Mrs. Ibe named the countries involved as Mexico, Sierra Leone, Malawi, Cuba, Gambia, Turkey, Venezuela and Israel.

“This arrangement is an unprecedented milestone in collaborating with the diplomatic community.

“This in essence will pave way for the development of in-bound tourism which is lagging behind because our tourism potential is not well marketed.

“This collaboration will bring about great development in the tourism sector and immense revenue will be generated from the foreign tourists,’’ she said.

Ibe urged the government to install the needed basic infrastructure at tourists’ sites to help the NTDC in achieving the set goals for the development of the sites.

She said that the roads leading to most of the tourists’ sites were dilapidated and could discourage tourists from visiting them.

“Government should repair these roads and build new ones around the sites to encourage both local and foreign tourists,’’ Ibe said.

According to her, Nigerian tourist sites, if well developed, could be the most preferred haven for tourists in the nearest future.
