The former television presenter and model from Andover, Hampshire, who had acid thrown in her face in a horrific attack arranged by Piper’s ex-boyfriend and carried out by an accomplice in 2008, Katie Piper has been back in hospital this week to have further surgery on her throat.
The mother of one who has been in and out of the operating theatre a lot this year, has confessed there are still more appointments to come as her operation yesterday didn’t go according to plan.
Standing in a blue and white hospital gown and waving to the camera without make-up, the TV presenter revealed she was having what would hopefully be her last medical visit for a while.
On her twitter page Katie captioned it: “Back down to theatre for me this morning- praying today may be the last operation on my throat for a while. Nearly there.”
However, the poor model went on to reveal her operation wasn’t successful and that more work would need to be done.
“It wasn’t my day today – require further surgery next week, C’est la vie!” she later tweeted.Brave star reassured fans she was feeling positive about the future
The attack blinded Piper in one eye, and surgeons removed all the skin from her face before rebuilding it with a skin substitute and then a skin graft. The procedure was the first of its kind to be completed in a single operation. Katie also underwent Ex-vivo limbal stem cell allograft transplantation (EVSCALT) at the Centre for Sight to restore her vision.
Her attacker and ex-boyfriend were arrested and are serving life sentences in prison for their crimes.
