Birthday Shout! Celebrating the Phenomenal duo – P Square

Yvonne Williams

We celebrate sensational music duo Peter and Paul Okoye this day November 18

Nigerian R&B stars Peter and Paul Okoye better known by their stage name – P Square are natives of Ifite Dunu, Anambra State, were born in Jos, Nigeria. The recording artists and performers began their journey into the music world while in St. Mulumba secondary school, Jos, Nigeria.

The budding stars started mimicking  MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson while trying to carve a niche for themselves. They later formed a cappella quartet called “MMMPP” (M Clef a.k.a. Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul), however they dropped M Clef from the group “MMMPP” which later was changed to “MMPP”.

Gradually they started gaining popularity in Jos, performing at schools and other functions, then released their debut album ‘Last Nite’  in 2003 by Timbuk2 Music Label. The album produced two major singles—“Senorita” and “Igbedu” which received massive airplay across radio waves.

P-Square’s 2006 album Get Squared earned the awards for Best R&B/Pop Album and Album of the Year at the Headies.

Right from when they stepped in the music scene in 2003, the multiple talented duo has managed to hold it down, churning out successful albums; from Get Squared  to Double Trouble and others.

Paul and Peter Okiye turn 34 today!

Here’s saying a big Happy Birthday to our stars!
