2010 – Celebrated music star Dagrin died on this day (eight days) after he was involved in a ghastly motor accident in front of Alakara Police Station, off Agege Motor Road, Mushin. He was initially admitted at Tai Solarin Hospital, Mushin before being transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (LUTH) Idi Araba, where he gave up around 6pm.
1526- 1st slave revolt occurs in SC
1970- The first “Earth Day” was observed by millions of Americans. Earth Day, an event to increase public awareness of the world’s environmental problems, is celebrated in the United States for the first time. Millions of Americans, including students from thousands of colleges and universities, participated in rallies, marches, and educational programs.
1915- 1st military use of poison gas (chlorine, by Germany) in WW I
2005 – A car bomb exploded during prayers at a Shiite mosque in Baghdad, killing eight people and wounding 20. A militant group claimed responsibility for shooting down a Russian-made helicopter carrying 11 civilians and released a video purportedly showing insurgents shooting the crash’s lone survivor.
