The funeral service of heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali holds today Friday, June 10 in his hometown Louisville, Kentucky.

In celebration of The Greatest, a procession going through Louisville with a public memorial service at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Ali’s hometown will hold.

Famed boxer Muhammad Ali’s funeral holds today Friday in accordance to his wishes – “A day long event honouring the iconic boxer’s life and legacy”. The funeral itself will hold at Louisville, Kentucky where Muhammad Ali grew up. It will begin at 2 p.m. local time.

The streets of Louisville, which holds sweet childhood memories for Ali will host a procession of mourners paying their respects, launching the event. Areas of importance to the legend including a street named after him, his old neighbourhood, and areas where photos were taken of him after he returned from the Olympics have been picked.

The funeral will hold at Sports Arena which has the capacity to hold 22,000 people. While, the funeral itself will take place at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville. It will be open to the public however, a private burial with just the family will take place later at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville.

This includes mostly family members, however Hollywood star Will Smith, who played Ali in Ali and is a family friend made the list. Others include; Lennox Lewis, the former heavyweight champion/ Olympic medalist, John Grady, Ali’s cousin; Ibn Ali, Ali’s nephew; Komawi Ali, his former brother-in-law; Jerry Ellis, the brother of Ali’s former sparring partner Jimmy Ellis; Jan Wandell, Ali’s first cousin; and John Ramsey, a family friend.

The heavyweight champion and rights activist died last Friday, June 3 after a long battle with parkinson disease, aged 74.
