HAPPENINGS MAGAZINE correspondents, ODUNAYO ADENEYE & KIKELOMO ONIGBANJO were in UNILAG to sample students opinions on how they are coping and what it means to study in a Nigerian University. We caught up with Muyiwa George, a 100L student of Geology who shared with us his experiences so far as a fresher. Excerpts;
INTRODUCTION
My name is Muyiwa George, I am an 100-Level student of Geology, Unilag (University Of Lagos). It’s been kind of rough and tough being a fresher, even in 2nd semester, the classes and registration process are just too cumbersome, but I am loving it.
HOSTEL
I stay on campus-Marere hall- It’s still decent compared to other hostel. I am coping and managing.
HIGH & LOW MOMENTS IN UNILAG – I love the lectures, the classes are fun, but exam periods ehnn, I can’t deal.
LET TALK ABOUT THE GIRLS…. GENERAL LAUGHTER…LOL, SO ARE YOU IN A RELATIONSHIP?
Hmmmm… Unilag girls are cool though, but, it’s complicated for me oooo
ARE YOU FACEBOOK OR ARE YOU A PLAYER?
I am not a player. Well they are not coming, seriously!
REALLY, FINE BOY LIKE YOU?
The problem is that they are not coming. The question is am I even talking to them?
ARE YOU SCARED OF THEM?
Scared ke? habaa, No oooo
THEY ARE NOT TO COME, YOU ARE THE MAN… DON’T YOU HAVE A CRUSH AT ALL?
It’s kind of hard, I like my crush from afar, but the fear of speaking to her and she turning me down is not something I can deal with, so, I just stay on my own lane.
ARE YOU AN INTROVERT?
YES.
HOW IS YOUR TYPICAL DAY LIKE IN UNILAG?
I attend my lecture, then my room, finish!
REALLY? THAT IS ALL
I am kinda boring abii?
HOW DO YOU UNWIND?
I chill with my friends, see movies and play games.
SO, DID YOU REALLY WANT TO STUDY GEOLOGY?
Yes, that is what I put in for, I love it.
OH! OIL & GAS MONEY ABI?
General laughter… well that, then the study about rocks and earth, its really a cool course.
THE MOST INTENSE CHALLENGE BEING A FRESHER IN UNILAG?
Arggh, maybe when lecturers refuse to come for their classes, and no matter how early you try, the lecture theaters are always full to the brim. I imagine if my fellow course mates don’t sleep at home at all or slept in class overnight.
WHAT IS YOUR STUDENT-LECTURER RELATIONSHIP LIKE?
Actually, I haven’t met any of my lecturers, except for my course-adviser, who is a very nice man.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
You are welcome!
