As a new couple it is expected that you have lots of time together to soak up intimate details about yourselves to create that smooth flow needed to adjust to the new phase of your relationship. That said, although your in-laws might be great people, living with them might not be such a good idea. Wondering why? Four reasons:
Nil privacy: Forget being all lovey dovey, as long as you’ve got company, there will be no surprise make out sessions / spontaneous sex – totally not happening. Feelings have to be contained. Not fun!
Limited freedom – You’ve got to be super conscious in everything you do and I mean everything, so you don’t end up offending anyone, and get this, you’re not permitted to get angry/hurt either – Super tiring no doubt.
Familiarity breeds contempt – You might have been the “perfect daughter/ son in-law” to have at first, but a few months down the line, the story’s going to change as they begin to “see your inadequacies” all too clearly. Not a good idea.
Interference: We all know we’ll forever remain kids to our dearly beloved parents, but thankfully getting married and becoming adults gives you a little bit of timeout, away from them just so you can breath but when the kids start coming and you’ve got in-laws with you for a long long time- the pressure is not something you want to deal with; advice here and there…Plus, constant interference can pull a couple apart real quick.
