It is not even funny. How do you tell a people who have never had basic amenities to focus on themselves for change?
We pay tax, we pay tolls, we pay bills- exorbitant NEPA bills even without electricity; we generate our own power still, build our community roads, provide our own security, send our children to expensive schools because public schools in Nigeria is in coma. For those who can travel abroad for health checks, they spend crazy bills. For those who cannot, they rely on fellow Nigerians to pour in their generosity so they find their way out…or wait patiently to die.
Nigeria has done absolutely nothing for us. Young entrepreneurs who struggle to preserve dignity and trade had to pay a dear price a few weeks back when their shops were demolished by Lagos state authorities.
Pensioners are still dying whilst queuing, trying to get their money.
Domestic violence is still a family matter. Rape too.
So, when Buhari says change begins with us…what does he really mean?
We watch as our country is raped by our leaders. Brazen corruption that cannot be questioned or tamed.
We are scraping the bottom of our pots… yet this government demands to humiliate us even further- blame us for our lack of growth and development. Detach itself from responsibility.
What a country.
