The petty thief should serve time, yes.

But in the Nigerian system of justice that is defined by the police, rape and paedophilia is not as damning as stealing a pack of seasoning cubes, a fowl or a carton of noodles.

So the petty thief is killed at the market square- tyre around his neck, burned to ashes, for daring to be hungry.

While the man who rapes a child is sent home to settle with his family, cast the sin on the devil and proceed with the function of being the head of the home.

There’s no way we will achieve development or greatness when the cries of children from broken windows are ignored by mothers, neighbours, society and religion.
