1846 – Legendary Juju musician King Sunny Ade is born in Osogbo, now known as Osun State

1927 – Slavery is abolished in Sierra Leone

1982 – Sitcom “Family Ties” starring Michael J. Fox premieres on NBC

1989 – “Baywatch”, starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, debuts on NBC

1997 –  Elton John releases “Candle in the Wind 1997”, a tribute to Diana, late Princess of Wales in the US.

1994 – Friends debuts; the television sitcom Friends, about six young adults living in New York City, debuts on NBC. 1893 –  Bicycle makers Charles and Frank Duryea show off the first American automobile produced for sale to the public by taking it on a maiden run through the streets of Springfield, Massachusetts.
