Award winning actress and director Joke Silva no doubt stands tall as one of the pillars of the Nigerian film world as she turns a year older today, we must give honour to whom it is due.
The icon who started her acting career 1981 was born in Lagos, Nigeria, the second child in a family of five children.
Joke Silva had her secondary school education at Holy Child College, Lagos after which she proceeded to study English at the University of Lagos, but it didn’t end there as after her tertiary education she then moved to England where she attended Wentworth Milton, Mount Bournemouth to obtain her A levels and studied drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
The exceptional actress started acting in 1981 and had her first appearance in “Mind Bending”. She also featured n 1993 in a Yoruba movie titled “Owurolojo” .
Joke Silva has featured in several films and television series including; Secret Laughter of Women, 30 Days, Letters to a Stranger, Widow’s Cot, For Coloured Girls and the Africa Movie Academy Award-nominated films White Waters and The Amazing Grace.
She has received several awards and nominations for her work as an actress including Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 2nd Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2006 for the movie, Women’s Cot, she won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie ‘White Waters’ at the 4th Africa Movie Academy Awards in 2008, also received the EMOTAN Award by African Independent Television (AIT) among others.
Joke Silva got married to fellow veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs in 1985 and the union is blessed with 2 children. They have been married since 1985. Together, they both run the Lufodo Group, which houses Lufodo productions, Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, Lufodo Consult, and Lufodo Distribution.
Joke Silva was one of the Academy Faculty members at the just concluded MTN Project Fame season 9 reality tv show.
She was recently announced as an official partner of Aiico Pension.
