American entrepreneur, producer , author and most notably, Co-founder hip-hop music label Def Jam. Russell Simmons is credited for his role in the revolution of Hip Hop. He was responsible for promoting stars like the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy and LL Cool J, a business he ventured in, in his 20s.
Russel is also known for his successful clothing lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and American Clas sics.
Before fame came calling, a thirsty Russell dropped out of College in New York to pursue his passion, a decision which obviously paid off big time as he became one of the richest figures in the hip-hop community reportedly with a net worth of $340 million in 2011.
He married American former fashion model and current fashion designer Kimora Lee Simmons in 1998 and the couple had two daughters, Ming and Aoki, before divorcing.
