All round entertainer; singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, writer and actor Shaffer Chimere Smith better known by his stage name Ne-Yo, is known for dishing out mega hits; Miss Independent, Because of You and rose quickly as his composition “Let Me Love You” which became number one hits including, Closer.
As a writer the multi talented act penned a couple of the biggest hits including Rihanna’s ballad “Unfaithful” and Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable.”
He had his acting debut in the movie Stomp the Yard.
Before hitting the limelight, he performed under the name “GoGo” with a band called Envy, however fame came calling while writing music for singer Marques Houston.
In 2006, he collaborated with Rihanna on her top-ten single “Unfaithful.”
Over the years Ne-Yo has continued to achieve commercial success.
His third Album, Year of the Gentleman, was nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award. His debut album, In My Own Words, included the song “So Sick,” which became a #1 hit on the U.S. Billboard 200.
He has a son named Mason Evan Smith and a daughter named Madilyn Grace Smith with Monyetta Shaw. He married Crystal Renay in 2016 and the couple welcomed a son named Shaffer Jr. that same year.
