Meeting someone for the first time can be really awkward, especially if you are meeting a ‘potential bae’ on a blind date. The results may turn out well sometimes and other times not so pleasant. On Episode 5 of My Coffee Lagos Blind Date, our guests, Mariam Odubena, a Businesswoman and Valentine Azike, an IT Engineer were able to get past this awkwardness transforming it into a lovely and fun afternoon over coffee -the most exceptional coffee you can find in these parts. They also signed a ‘Wish Book’ courtesy of My Coffee Lagos, and of course, the Happenings Team was there to capture the moments! The couple shares their experience here…
Mariam: Yes I enjoyed my date a lot. I was not really expecting anything; I just wanted to catch some fun. I enjoyed myself. It was not a total waste of time because I enjoyed our conversation.
Valentine: Yes I did. She kept the conversation going and I enjoyed every bit of time spent with her. On a scale of 1 to 5, I would give it a 3.
Mariam: He is calm, a good listener and he really seems like an indoor person, not really adventurous. I think he operates in a circle- work and home.
Valentine: She is an entrepreneur; she likes being on her own and not working for other people. And she is a strong person.
Valentine: Fair ladies on red always match, which means I liked what she was putting on a lot.
Mariam: No I don’t. I mean native on a Saturday? Dressing casual would have been better maybe just a pair of jeans on a T-shirt.
Mariam: (laughs heartily) Second date? With him? I doubt it! I don’t know what we will be talking about. Maybe I’m not just feeling him, I don’t know…
Valentine: I hope so, although she looks a bit distracted from me. I like making eye contact with the person I’m talking to, but she was moving away. But if there is a second date, I think a barbecue joint will be cool.
Mariam: I don’t think so… or maybe I really cannot tell, because he may be more interesting than I thought. I’ve just known him for not more than 3 hours. So it is really hard to tell if I can date him or not.
Valentine: I think I am in between here. I am someone you call a ‘serial dater’; I am always in a relationship. But I have not been in a serious relationship since last year. And I don’t want to lead her on. I don’t know if I want to date her.
Valentine: This place is really cool. I love the coffee. They got it the way I want it to the last detail. But it got cold early and I don’t like cold things. The cake was filling and nice too.
Mariam: It is a really nice and cool place. The atmosphere here makes you feel at home. It is not really spacious, but they have a way to make you feel relaxed. And the best is that it’s really affordable. I like this place. And the waiter that attended to us, Timileyin, is a real comedian. He attended to us well.
Valentine: I will come here and even bring my colleagues and friends. It’s a very good place to hang out, especially when you are working late at night. Just come in and have a night cap.
Mariam: I will definitely come back here. I have a sweet tooth, and they have sweet things here, so we go together. (laughter). They will be seeing me here often.
Valentine: I’ll tell her privately (general laughter)
Mariam: No! I don’t have anything to say to him.
