2013 – Today we celebrate renowned South African anti-apartheid activist and leader who made history by becoming the country’s  first black president and leading a life of selflessness, Nelson Mandela. The late legend who spent nearly thirty years in prison for fighting against apartheid in South Africa was revered worldwide as a fighter for freedoms. Nelson Mandela, died at the age of ninety-five after suffering from a respiratory infection.

2003 – Coldplay lead vocalist Chris Martin (35) weds actress and singer Gwyneth Paltrow (39) at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California, however the couple called it quits in 2014, in 2016 they signed their divorce paper.

2008 – U.S.A.  O.J. Simpson sentenced to up to thirty-three years in jaiL. O.J. Simpson, who was acquitted for the well-known double murder in Los Angeles is sentenced for up to thirty-three years in prison for robbing a pair of memorabilia dealers. He will not be eligible for parole for nine years.

1983 – General Yakubu Gowon returned to Nigeria after about eight years of exile in the United Kingdom. Gowon had been overthrown in a bloodless coup in 1975, while attending an OAU summit in Uganda.
