1922 – On this day in history, Bobby Benson a Nigerian entertainer and comedian is born. He was the pioneer of High Life music in Nigeria. His songs include; Gentleman, Taxi Driver and so on. Bobby Benson hosted the Bobby Benson Show on the Nigerian Television Authority in the 1970s. He died 14 May 1983.

1976 –  The Apple I computer, created by Steve Wozniak is released.

2012 –  “The Avengers”, directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlet Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Rennner, premieres in Los Angeles.

1979 –  Idi Amin was deposed as president of Uganda as rebels and exiles backed by Tanzanian forces seized control of Kampala. Amin escaped to Libya and settled into exile in Saudi Arabia.

2012 – Algeria’s First President Dies. Ahmed Ben Bella who became the first president of independent Algeria in 1963 died at the age of ninety-five.

2012 – Chief (DR) M. A Majekodunmi, founder of St Nicholas hospital is born. He was the personal physician of Sir Tafawa Balewa.

1945 – Lord Lugard dies. He was the first governor general of the Nigerian protectorate in 1914

World Parkinson’s Disease Day– The day is aimed at increasing public awareness of the terrible disease as well as a promoting a greater understanding of this condition and how it can affect a person. It also marks the birthday of Dr. J Parkinson, he is the one who discovered the disease.
