5 Things You Should Know Before You Turn 30

Turning 30 in the new decade? Here are 5 things you must know.

Although every birthday should be regarded as a milestone, worthy of celebration - it is, after all, a new year - there is something different about the big 30.

By the time you turn 29, over a quarter of your life has passed, you would have enjoyed a kaleidoscope of experiences; fallen in or out of love, won or lost a ton of money, failed, dropped out or graduated from the university. Overall, you would have learnt so many things about the kind of person you are and whether or not you want to be that person.

If you have not lived your desired life, there is a pressure like never before, like turning 30 means you can no longer live. For these people, the period before this milestone age is turned to a time of reflection and sometimes sadness, mourning time they will never get back. Then there are the others; those who have considered their lives well lived. These people go all out to throw the best kind of party for this milestone age.

What is important, however, is having the best quality of life by being the best version of yourself. So, whether you fall in the former or latter category, here are things you must know before, during or after you hit the big 30

1. There is no pressure

Age is just a number. Enjoy your life in the best way possible and do not let societal dictates rush you into living a life you will completely hate yourself for.

2. Get a hold on your finances

As you get older, your responsibilities become louder. It is never too late to learn how to manage your financial resources. Get financially literate, learn how to keep savings accounts, learn how investments work. Get this done and you will smile down into your forties.

3. Stop ignoring yourself

If you have been ignoring yourself, there is no better time to take care of yourself than now. Buy yourself some nice things, see a movie, eat what you like (do not go overboard), take yourself on a spa date, travel somewhere nice, start that business you have been longing for, learn how to cook, learn a new skill, learn a new language, mediate, start taking care of your body, learn how to drive. Live more than a little. Self-care time is now.

4. Keep in touch with your loved ones

One thing your birthdays should remind you of is how fleeting time is. Those you love will not be with you forever. Spend quality time with those you love, call them more, visit more, show them love in the best way you can.

5. Learn to live in the moment

This is the most important thing to know. Whether you are 18, 21, 30 or 50, living your life in the moment guarantees you a life free of regrets. Every day you live will never be the same experience. So, take it in as well as you can and enjoy it for all it is worth.
