Kano destroys illicit drugs worth N4bn


Kano state government recently destroyed N4 billion worth of illicit/fake drugs as part of its efforts to curtail the activities of illicit drug peddlers in the state.

Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Tuesday in Gusau, Zamfara while addressing newsmen.

The governor was in the state to solicit the support of the people to win nomination as the presidential flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election.

He expressed concern that drug abuse and the sale of fake/illicit drugs had adversely affected the youths and the economy of the state.

He said that his administration was collaborating with NAFDAC, NDLEA, the police, traditional institutions and the local security outfit known as Hisbah to stamp out the menace.

Kwankwanso said his government had established various educational and vocational institutions across the state to develop the capacity of the youths.

He said that in its efforts to provide quality education for the youths, his administration established 44 new technical schools across the state.

He said that government also provided state-of-the-art equipment and structures in all existing schools across the state.

He said that his administration had also sponsored thousands of students from the state in various tertiary institutions within and outside the country.
