Fortune may have smiled on “Nasir” last night, a fruit seller who hawks his merchandise at the foot of the Oshodi bridge.
The driver of a 27-seater commercial bus apparently lost his brakes on descending the bridge at full-speed and rammed into a much smaller 14-seater commercial bus (danfo) from behind, sending it spiralling out of control while the larger vehicle ran into a lamp post, just beside where a fruit seller was attending to a customer.
“I was slicing watermelon for her [customer] when i heard a loud bang followed by the sound of commotion. I looked up and saw a big danfo heading straight at us, i dropped everything and pulled the woman to myself, falling out of the way,” Nasir said.
Luckily for them the pole beside where they stood stopped the vehicle, crushing Nasir’s wheelbarrow and all his wares.
