The Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) on Wednesday released the list of 12 players that would represent the country at the 2015 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Senior Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

Anderson Bankole, the technical director of NTTF, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the players would also be accompanied by four coaches.

The championship is slated to hold between Jan. 23 to Jan. 29.

He said that the male team would be led by veteran player, Segun Toriola.
Other male players in the team are Aruna Quadri, Seun Ajetunmobi, Onaolapo Ojo, Jide Ogidiolu and Kazeem Makanjuola.

The female team would be led by an old hand, Funke Oshinaike and include Janet Friday, Cecilia Otu-Akpan, Atinuke Olaide, Tosin Oribamise and Edem Offiong.

The coaching team would be led by NTTF head coach, Nosiru Bello and include Friday Abah, Richard George and Samson Ajayi.

Bankole said that the players were carefully selected based on performance.

“The federation technical crew has been having close monitoring of our players, both the home-based and those of them that play abroad.

“We want to have a remarkable outing at the championships and to achieve that, we were strict and calculative in the selection process.

“Looking at the list, you would observe that most of them are foreign-based players and we have been monitoring their performances and fitness in their various clubs.

“We want to start the year with a good performance at the championship, so that we would build up on our performance all through the year,’’ he said.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, however, expressed confidence on the ability of the players to do well at the championship.

“The team is a formidable one; the players know what it entails to represent the country, they have been representing the country in the past and have been doing well.

“ I urge Nigerians to support them and wish them well in Egypt,’’ he said.
