2015 Election: Methodist church embark on 5 day prayer convention

Happenings

Methodist Church of Nigeria on Sunday announced plans to commence a five-day annual convention to pray for peaceful 2015 general elections.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes the church’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Rev. Oladapo Daramola, as saying that the prayer session, to hold in Ogun, would begin on Wednesday.

According to him, the convention will be led by the church’s Prelate, Most Rev. Kanu Uche.

“The decision of the church to put the 2015 general elections on the front burner at the convention is informed by the conviction that God has always intervened in the affairs of men.”

“We are prompted to take the elections seriously, considering some worrying signs as evident in the increase in violence, arson and brigandage in some parts of the country.”

“We believe that, as the Bible says, the prayer of faith makes tremendous power available to those who believe.”

“The humongous challenges before our nation requires divine intervention; hence, our readiness to pray fervently,” he said.

He said the church would also pray against insurgency in the northern part of the country as well as pray over the dwindling oil revenue.
