Zamfara Zakkat and Endowment Board said it distributed N23 million to 230 people in 2014, to improve small and medium scale businesses in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Malam Bashir Sirajo, disclosed this to n Gusau on Friday in an interview.
Sirajo said the beneficiaries included both men and women who were drawn from the 230 wards of the state in which each beneficiary received N100,000 cash as assistance.
The executive secretary said that similar amount was also given to 230 patients of various diseases as medical assistance across the 14 local government areas of the state.
He said all the assistance by the board to the people with special needs, adding “this is apart from the day to day assistance we give to people with emergency problems”.
“Apart from these categories of assistance, the board also sponsored the treatment of over 200 patients with psychiatric problem to various psychiatric hospitals in the country,” he said.
He commended the state government for giving the board two per cent drawn from every state and local government contract funds.
While commending the well-to-do individuals in the state over their support and cooperation to the board, the Executive Secretary urged them to give out their Zakkat through the board for onward distribution to beneficiaries. (NAN)
